Lake Michigan Fishing Charter – Planning the Perfect Fishing Adventure

Lake Michigan is one of the greatest fishing destinations with all of its natural beauty, scenic shoreline, species of fish and proximity to major cities such as Chicago. These fine attributes make Lake Michigan a wonderful option for reserving a fishing charter to explore the lake.

When choosing a fishing charter, there are many things that should be considered. Most charter boats price the rental based on six people, so you should get a group of friends together. A discount is usually offered for parties over six. The trips are priced this way so that the charter company can cover the inherently high cost of overhead associated with operating the boat. The charter company also has to pay for a first mate to help the captain. The first mate takes care of baiting hooks, tackle, removing fish, cleaning the boat and many other tasks.

Another consideration is choosing the best time to get a fishing charter. This depends on different factors including when you are able to get your friends together, fishing type and species of fish you would like to catch.

The Lake Michigan fishing season starts in the middle of April and goes through October. April and May are the best times to catch Jumbo Yellow Perch. In the months June through October, fishers will find many Coho Salmon, Rainbow Trout, Chinook Salmon, Lake Trout and Brown Trout. During the September and October months, fishers will find the best time to catch Lake Trout. If you are interested in perch fishing, visit the Lake any time between the middle of April until the end of October. During this time, you will catch the largest most beautiful perch you have ever seen. The limit for each fisher is 15 perch.

It is important to remember that fishing charters on Lake Michigan are reserved weeks, even months, in advance especially for holidays or weekends. The moment you decide on a date that works for you, call up the fishing charter and reserve it immediately. Captains usually require a deposit to reserve the boat for the date you need it. In the event of inclement weather, you can apply your deposit to another date.

A Lake Michigan fishing charter is a very fun and exciting option for fishers and people who love to spend time outside. With all the amazing fish in Lake Michigan and the beautiful shoreline, you cannot go wrong.
